Servicing a New Holland TN-Series Pictures are of a TN70. Concepts apply to other models.
Before performing any of the following operations, be sure that engine is stopped and has been given adequate time to cool down
Fan Belt
Check fan belt deflection to .39 - .43 inches (10 – 11mm) with a load of 17.7 – 22.1 pounds (8 – 10 kg)
To adjust tension, loosen the screw, adjust tension, and tighten screw
Replace the belt if it is damaged or requires adjustment frequently
Air Filter
When the air filter indicator light illuminates, check the filter for clogging
Remove ail cleaner cover
Take primary filter out of canister
Clean with air pressure from the inside to the outside at a pressure less than 84 psi
or
Clean with water and a non-foaming detergent, rinse with water at less than 41 psi, and dry with air at less than 122°F
Clean inside of container with a damp cloth
Reinstall air filter cartridge
Outer filter needs to be replaced every year, or when cracks appear (check by putting a light inside the filter and examining the outside)
Inner filter should be replaced at the same time that the outer filter is replaced
Fuel Filter Condensation Discharge
Discharge fuel filter condensation by loosening the screw ¾ of a turn
Oil Sump
Remove drain plug to drain oil
Put drain plug back in
Fill oil as needed
Oil sump should be drained after every 300 hours of operation
Changing Fuel Filter
Unscrew fuel filter cartridge
Replace with new cartridge
Bleed fuel system
Oil filter should be replaced after every 300 hours of operation
Bleeding the Fuel System
System needs to be bled in the following situations:
If the tractor has not been used for a long period of time
When fuel filter or fuel lines have been removed
When fuel tank is empty
Unscrew the bleed plug two turns
Move lever until fuel without air bubbles flows from bleed hole
Tighten bleed plug
Loosen fuel lines at all 3 injectors
Move lever again until fuel without air bubbles flows from bleed hole
Tighten fuel lines
Start engine and release key as soon as engine starts
If engine does not start, repeat above steps
If fuel system is being bled because tractor has not been run for a long period of time, be sure to add a protective fuel additive into the fuel at 10% of the amount of fuel. Then run engine for about half an hour.
Transmission and Services Oil Filter
Unscrew old oil filter and discard
Apply a small amount of oil to the rubber seal of the new filter
Tighten filter until it touches the mounting surface
Tighten filter an additional ¾ turn by hand
When a new filter is installed, oil typically decreases a little. Ensure that oil does not leak through the seal of the filter, then refill oil as needed.
