#6A320-56220 Front Axle Oil Seal

I watched a few online videos to understand the process better. The only difference is a bearing puller was used to assist in setting the upper race rather then a hammer and a 2 inch pipe. I also used a large clamp to hold the wheel assembly together so I can get the bottom clip reattached using both hands. Also used liberal amounts of silicone grease in the assembly process to allow everything to eastly go together and because it will not effect the rubber parts of the seal.

Find a good pair of 90° snap ring pliers. I used a 2” PVC coupling with a short piece of pipe to install upper half of seal onto upper spindles. Coated both lower and upper parts of seal with silicone grease to insure good lubrication. I have an older BX2200 which did not require the o rings so all I needed was the gasket making sealant. Approximately 5 qts. 80/90 axle grease. Filled each hub through top hole, occasionally turning hub to improve air removal. This task is reasonably easy for a DIY job. Saves about $1500. Snap ring pliers and a 2” coupling with 4” long piece of pipe are the key tools.

PROJECT: Removed/Repaired/Reinstalled both front axle gear case units on Kubota model BX2230D. R&R both front axle oil seals, R&R both front axle inner & outer bearings, R&R both front axle gear case upper dual-piece oil seals, R&R silicone sealant on both front axle gear case covers (Kubota Silicone Sealant Gray #70000-73764-620), reassembled both front axle gear case units, torqued front axle gear case covers mounting bolts, reinstalled both front gear case units to the front differential case, allowed sealant to cure overnight. The following morning serviced front differential system with 5 quarts 80/90 gear oil. Many various tools required to complete process; hand tools, torque wrench. gear puller, hydraulic press, etc. I found that a Coupling for 2 inch diameter scedule 40 PVC pipe worked nicely installing the front axle gear case upper dual-piece oil seals. Nothing easy about any part of this project.The time stated is from the start to the finish of this project.

Get a good pair of right-angle retainer clip pliers. Took some time to reinstall the retaining ring. But other than that, It's a straightforward job

You will need a good quality 45 degree or 90 degree snap ring pliers to remove snap ring. A 2” pvc drain pipe fitting works great to tap upper shaft seal onto shaft. I used a bar clamp to hold assembly together when reinstalling c-clip.

It's a bear to get to. Must remove fenders, step and loads of goodies. Then front HST cooling cover and next bearing housing needs removed. Hidden between the roller bearing and the needle bearing resides this little expensive part, labor wise, not cost for seal!! No easy way, dig in and "Git er done"!
