#K5617-33230 BOLT, REAMER M10

My application was for a RCK54P-23BX mower with a split aluminum gear box. The other gearbox listed in the workshop manual is different than mine. The following information is applicable to my style of gear box. Clean the inside hex head side of the spindle housing with a wire brush. Install the bolts in the proper place tap with hammer to seat the heads completely. Reamer bolts are different for each side. (7T RH side and M10 LH side) (IMPORTANT): Kubota shop manual gives a torque rating of of over 50 ft lbs for these nuts on the reamer bolts. This is too much for the 10 x 1.25mm bolts. They require 40 ft lbs according to the general bolt torque specs for 7T and/or M10 10 x 1.25 bolts. When I tried to tighten them to the Kubota shop manual torque it pulled the threads out of the nuts (nuts must be softer than the bolts) Kubota doesn't use hardened nuts for the reamer bolts. Messicks sold me unmarked metric nuts that were (me guessing) grade 5. I torqued them to 38 to 40 ft lbs. All went well. 1st To Put the mower gear box on the tractor. Lightly tighten the reamer bolt nuts to hold the gear box brackets in place to the mower deck, don't torque them yet. Screw in the bolts that hold the brackets to the gear box with the aluminum bracket LH side1st hand tight. next screw in the bolts to the steel bracket RH side hand tight. (Bolts on left and right side are different). When all bolts and nuts are snug and in place. Torque the aluminum bracket bolts to the gear box 1st (to specified torque), then torque the reamer nuts on the aluminum bracket to deck 2nd to 40 ft lbs. Next torque the bolts RH side steel bracket to gear box to specified torque 3rd. Torque the reamer nuts to the deck on the RH side to 40 ft. Lbs. You should be finished.
