Is there a proper engine RPM for loader work?

Tags :  compact-tractors  |  front-loader  |  kubota  |  loaders  |

Neil from Messick's here with today's Three-Minute Thursday. Today's short conversation is going to be about your tractor's hydraulic system and the way that it builds pressure.
This is an interesting Three-Minute Thursday today for us because it really has taken a turn that we didn't quite expect. We sat down and actually set this up to come out and show how raising your engine RPMs provides more power for your loader to lift and we're going to give some advice about maybe what is the proper engine RPM to run at when you're reaching those pressures.

Interestingly enough though, when we came out and actually put the gauge on and started talking to some of the mechanics that we've got in the shop, they pointed out to us that our thinking was wrong. That when you start the tractor up, you're going to come up to basically your full pressure in your hydraulic system, and almost immediately, regardless of the engine RPMs that you're running at. The fact that that pump is spinning and building pressure is going to push it right up to its relief point where it's going to stop and stay.

However, engine RPMs clearly do have some impact on the work that you're doing. Your tractor, your loader, your transmission, doesn't feel as powerful at low RPMs it does at higher ones. The reasoning for that is the relationship between that pressure and flow. As you're operating your tractor, as you're cycling the loader, you're driving your transmission, you're consuming that hydraulic fluid and causing the pieces of equipment's hydraulic pressure to drop down as the pump is working to recover again. At higher engine RPMs and that pump is spinning more quickly, it can recover faster. We're going to show that to you here with just a simple demonstration with this hydraulic gauge.

The first thing we're going to do is start off the tractor here and run it at idle. Okay. I'm down at 1100 engine RPMs here in my V 2650. I'm going to take my loader stick and push it forward because that's where my test gauge is. You can see I'm sitting right about 2250 on my gauge. Now, if I take my engine RPMs here and I go the whole way up, I pop up to 2400. There's only a difference of 150 PSI, less than 10% in pressure between that engine running at idle and the engine running wide open.

As short and simple as this is, today's Three-Minute Thursday is not what we thought it was going to be. As you're able to see, your hydraulic system is basically generating that same amount of pressure whether it's idle or whether it's running wide open. The difference in those pressures in the way that your tractor feels when it's working is just a difference in the recovery time, how fast that pressure is getting back up again while you're working.

We're going to head back inside here before it absolutely dumps rain all over us as the dark clouds are coming overhead. Hydraulic Front Auger on a Compact Tractor

Neil from Messick's here, out today with the Land Pride S 820 post auger to go on the front of some compact tractors, or machines are going to have a little less hydraulic flow. This is a unique piece that we've had a lot of interest in here lately, coming from guys that are a little disappointed in the performance of three-point hitch post augers. Remember, about a year ago or so ago I did what was one of our most popular videos of the five worst attachments for a compact tractor. One of those was a three-point hitch post auger. This is the much better alternative. We'll take a walk around here and show you exactly how this fits up to the tractor.

Get your Tractor out of the mud using your Front Loader

Today, I'm going to show you how to get your tractor unstuck from the mud using your load or there's a little technique that you can do to help get that tractor out on your own, without needing another machine in order to tow you out

Unexpected uses for a 3 point quick hitch | LandPride QH05

Neil from Messick's here. Today, to talk to you a little bit about a three-point quick hitch for the back of your tractor. Nearly 500 videos on YouTube now, believe it or not, and in several of them, I've actually bad mouth these things a little bit. The dealership side, they cause us a little bit of frustration sometimes because industry standards between these quick hitches and your implements are not strictly defined. There's a lot of implements these quick hitches don't work well with. That gives us sometimes a little bit of a bad taste for them.
