Kubota BX-80 Series with BX2816 Front Snowblower

We're out today with the Kubota BX2816 50 inch front snowblower for the BX80 series tractors. This is a unique piece that we have out here today typically we get a little frustrated when our vendors don't give us a whole lot of good information about front attachments and those kinds of things. We're going to spend some time on this one and hopefully be able to give you a little bit of information it might be hard to come by when flipping through a piece of literature.

To get a little bit of history in context on the BX Series snowblowers have years has gone by as we've gone from a BX00 series to the 30 to the 50 to the 60, the 70 and now the 80. For the most part, snowblowers have been backward compatible through a lot of little product line. That has changed this last year, there's a lot of differences down here in the mounting and the way that the tractor and the snow blower attached to each other because of those mounting differences we don't have backward compatible options anymore. This is a new snowblower for a new series tractor.

If you'd like to see exactly how that hitch works I'm going to do another video here showing exactly how to mount and remove these pieces or any of the other front attachments that might be in this series but right now we're going to focus on the snowblower itself. This is a 50-inch snowblower and in case of the snowblower here there's actually some commonality between BX80 series and the larger B series tractors. Because they're using similar mountings this snowblower is also used on a B2301 or B2601, giving some commonality and allowing this to fit on a lot of different things. Because of that relationship, there's also a 55-inch heavy duty version snowblower as well that could be mounted to both of those models.

Now we would typically see that larger 55-inch blower used up on the B series tractor. Well, this one would typically be used down on the BX but they can actually cross back and forth if you'd like to put one or the other for a particular application, say on your B series tractor you needed a narrow snowblower 50-inch snowblower to do a 48-inch driveway.

For instance, you wouldn't want the bigger blower and so the small BX Series one can carry up to that.

There's a surprising number of options available for snowblowers believe it or not this could be done in a very inexpensive economy configuration or a very deluxe hydraulic configuration. That's how this one here is set up. When you go through and you want to operate the rotator to spin this thing from left to right typically in the economy configuration you're going to have a screw with a handle come back here to the side of the tractor that you would crank in order to move this thing back and forth.

A very cheap and easy way of accomplishing that. If you'd like a more deluxe nicer to use setup though a hydraulic motor can be mounted right down here at the base of the spout with hoses that are going to come back here to your load of control valve in order to rotate the spout that makes it really nice to use. Since we've got third function kits now on BX's as well a hydraulic cylinder can also be rigged up here on the spout as well.

Typically in your more economy configurations, this is going to be done in a set it and forget it type solution where you're not really able to control it from the tractor. It can also be done with an electronic actuator as well if you don't want to spend the money on the hydraulic third function kit. You're going to have an extra button back there on your loader stick and then a diverter down here at the bottom to switch between the rotation function and the spout function.

I can make all the adjustments on this snowblower from the seat of the tractor and you're going to find that being a very nice option for a cab for instance. These things say the screw coming back the side aren't really compatible with the cab you need hydraulic motors to do those functions and they can be really convenient to operate from the seat of the tractor.

We're going to start the tractor up here and show you how the different hydraulic functions work. We start the machine up typically no matter how you set these things up, up and down on the loader stick are going to raise and lower your front hitch for any attachment you may have out there in the front. That's that guy right there now to spin my spout from left to right, I can take left and right on my loader stick and point this thing where I want it to go.

Then if I want to switch to adjusting my spout I have a button up here on the loader stick to activate the third function. I'm going to push the button and it's going to trigger a diverter that's now going to cause my left and right function to point the spout up and down. You can see I'm doing this in idle so I don't make a whole lot of noise. If I speed this thing up I get a lot of really fast action out of these things.

You can be very productive if you have a large area to clean, a lot of passes that you need to be back and forth rather than sitting there and cranking the screw to bring the spout back and forth the hydraulic actuator for this can make this a lot more efficient for you and a lot nicer to use. Another nice change has happened with the single lever quick coupler down here that's used on the loader is that we're now using flat faced couplers for all these connections.

If you've not seen flat faced couplers before, they're commonly used in the construction industry because they keep the couplers cleaner and they're a lot easier to attach and detach than what pioneer couplers are. This isn't using the single lever manifold that's used on the loader rather you take that manifold off and you just come over here at flat pace couplers now and attach them right onto these connections.
