Follow torque specs. No more than 2-3ft lbs. Use criss cross pattern and tighten each bolt slightly until the retainer ring contacts both ends. Then torque using same criss cross pattern. Get the right seal. I found out there is 2 different widths and 2 different part numbers.

The seal will be taller than the old one, as it must be compressed. For the Ford 555c the bolts get torqued 2-3 ft lb first, then 17 ft lb in a criss-cross pattern.
