You need to have a high torque impact wrench like the Milwaukee 1/2” 2767-20 M18 Fuel. I broke a number of things trying to use a pipe and breaker bar etc. You also need an impact rated 1-11/16” socket and probably a 1/2” to 3/4” adapter. Having two people is a bonus. If only 1 person, you can push something like a crowbar between the stump jumper and deck to stop it from spinning. PB Blaster is useful in getting the nut removed. Clean the nut, washer, bolt, and interface as well as you can after removal. Wire brush and Simple Green is what I use. Getting the blade plus bolt to sit in the hole while you move to the top to get the nut started is tricky with 1 person (adds 30 minutes) and easy with 2 people. You need to gently spin the nut on without disturbing the bolt or it will drop down and you will go back and forth from top to bottom to get the nut snug. I just torque it with my high torque impact but you could try a real torque wrench.

I sprayed the blade bolt nuts with penetrating oil the night before and used a 1” breaker bar and a 3’ piece of a pipe around the breaker bar to make it longer and have more leverage and was able to get the nuts broke loose. Then the bolts were stuck and wouldn’t fall out, so I put a big hammer on top of the bolts and smacked the other side of the hammer with a sledge hammer and the bolts fell out. Installation was pretty straightforward after that. The new blades were the exact blades that I needed and work great, time will tell how they hold up. Hopefully will last several years to come.

The hardest part was unscrewing the nuts, A pneumatic ratchet couldn;t do it. So, I used a heavy (3/4") socket wrench with a cheater pipe to loosen them. Other than that it was routine.

Pretty straight forward job; used 3/4” drive socket with a 6 foot cheater bar. If you use this method, it helps to have it hooked up to the tractor so the entire unit doesn’t turn on you. For safety I made sure not to hook up the PTO shaft and used rail road ties to secure the cutter off the ground to get to the blade.

If you have the good impact driver, changing the blades was not too difficult at all. I followed the technique in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4j4IsgYT14 I ended up building a little blade stand out of scrap wood to hold the blade in place while I was tightening the lock nut on top.
