#820-199C CUTTER BLADE 1/2 X3X31 CCW

Installation Tips

If this is the first replacement blades you are planning on installing on a rotary cutter, I would highly advise getting your hands on a pneumatic impact wrench. I was not able to break the nut loose with an extension bar or a cordless impact wrench with 600lbs of break away torque. The pneumatic impact wrench was the answer.

The new blades need sharpening. They have a 1/4" blunt edge, and the manual says it should be about 1/16". I'm cutting fields where there's no thick brush or rocks and want a decent cut. Removed original factory nuts using an air impact wrench. Installed the new ones by supporting the RCR1272 on jack stands, pre-positioned a bottle jack where the bolt goes through, put the bolt through the blade, position bolt and blade on top of the bottle jack, then jacked it into position. That held them in position so I could put the washer and nut on, then snugged them down with the impact wrench. Installed both blades, then went back and torqued both nuts once the cutter was on the ground.

Propping up blade under cutter to install nut on topside of cutter was a bit difficult. It would be much easier with two people, or an extra set of hands. Apply penetrating oil to bolts and nuts a day or two prior to trying to remove nuts. Didn't need a breaker bar, just impact wrench.

make sure you look at which side of the blade is 'UP' before you take them off. Also, there is a 'spacer' that is needed. Ya need to mic the old one for thickness and hope its not been worn down too much. Total time to actually replace was approximately 60 minutes from realizing a torch was going to be needed, burning them off, micing the old spacer, et al.
