Installation Tips

Unrated (2 hours)
I took stake nuts loose before removing cylinders. After removing stake nut spray cylinder head liberally with penetrating oil. Push cylinder head into cylinder far enough that threads are clear of the retaining ring. I installed new seals with generous amounts of petroleum jelly.

To remove the nut from the cylinder head, it might be necessary to insert something into the small hole in the cylinder barrel that allows the inserted tool(such as a punch or bolt) to also go into a recessed hole in the cylinder head to prevent it from turning as you loosen the nut. Once the nut is taken off, put it back on about 3 threads to assist in pushing the cylinder head into the barrel until the nut touches it. This creates the necessary depth in order to remove the split-ring that holds the cylinder head in place. It will likely be necessary to lightly sand and polish the inside 2" of the barrel before reassembly. Jumping forward, it is VERY HARD to install the inner seal into the cylinder head without a special 3-prong tool.

The cylinder needs to be pressurized in order to take apart. It will just spin and spin if you attempt to do in a bench. I ended up taking to hydraulic shop. The hydraulic shop did mention that the parts were a perfect fit.
