Installation Tips

Well, the installation of the new part, which is a bolt holding the blade was actually pretty easy all I needed was an inch and a quarter socket and a little bit of anit-seize for the threads sharpen the blade put the washer and bolt back in tighten it up And I was good to go but, that was not the hard part. The hard part was removing the old bolt which had sheared off flush in the spindle shaft replacing the shaft was not an option because they no longer make the part for this New Holland mower and no parts were available so I set out to remove the old threads Broken bolt Fortunately, this bolt is not a very hard metal so first I tried to tap it out with a drift, but it wouldn’t move. Then I drilled a whole dead center in the middle of it, which actually was pretty easy and since the bolt does not go all the way in to the shaft there was plenty of space in the bottom under the bolt I tried an easy out, but after applying quite a bit of forced to it my fear was the Easy. Out would break then you know you’re in big trouble with a broken easy out in the middle of your bolt. So, my next method was to keep drilling, larger and larger holes into the bolt until I had only a very little bit of bolt left, but I stopped drilling because I didn’t want to take a chance of damaging the threads So at that point, I took a saber saw blade on the end of a pair of vice grips and slowly cut from the center of the hole out to the edge again being careful not to cut into the threads. I did it in three places, and they remain under the bolt finally was loose, and I was able to tap the pieces out with a drift punch. Then looking at the shaft, spindle was perfect. No marks no damage whatsoever. Thank you Messick for the new part delivery which came very fast.
