Make sure you install the spring into the tensioner arm from the top side with the hook pointing towards the deck. If you install it backwards ( which is a lot easier ) the spring will rub against the deck during use and eventually break.

Put a 13/16 socket and pull handle on the idler pulley, pull the belt tight and slip the spring into its mounting position.

I connect one end of a turnbuckle to one of the spring hooks. The other end of the turnbuckle connects to the mower frame. I then turn the turnbuckle until the spring hook falls into place.
